Sandgate Conservation Society Trustee, Brenda Lorkin, was given a wild cherry tree sapling when she attended Geoffrey Moore’s funeral in March 2021.
Geoffrey, who died in January 2021 used to be a Trustee of the Society and its Chairman for five years, from 2005 to 2010.
As the cherry tree would get too big for her garden it was agreed that the Society should find a suitable alternative location for it. After consultation with Horsham District Council, Parks and Countryside, it was decided that a suitable spot would be next to or behind the bench opposite the heather bank in Sandgate Park.
The sapling has now been planted. The Society trustees are now considering adding a small plaque in memory of Geoffrey.
The tree can be seen in the photograph below, behind and to the left of the bench.
